A dog owner was left baffled by his parents’ reaction after they found out the name he gave to his pup.
Taking to Reddit, the man explained that he got a dog from an animal shelter and that he named her Lucy because the documents said she was a girl.
But when he realized that his puppy was a boy, he changed the name to Lucifer.
“I found out he was a boy but he already responded to his name so I jokingly just lengthened it to Lucifer and I call him Luci,” he wrote.
But his priest dad, who considered canines to be ‘the dev*l’s animal,’ was against the puppy’s name.
“I grew up with cats. As the opposite of dogs, they were obviously the opposite of h*ll – so heaven’s animals,” he went on.
When his parents found out that he was buying a puppy, they prayed for him.
“I never really believed in all the Jesus stuff, and if you ask anyone my dog is named after Lucifer from the show, not the literal Devil, because to me he doesn’t exist,” he explained.
But after sharing a photo of his four-legged friend on social media, his mother called him and convinced him to get rid of the puppy.
“My mum called me, sobbing, saying I’d been preyed upon and I needed to get rid of my dog immediately,” he shared.
“They have been begging me to change it. It’s a name, so I think it’s pretty funny. Jokes aside, it’s getting really serious. Like, my dad showed up to baptize my dog kind of seriously. I told him to f*** off and told them they were all blowing it out of proportion,” he added.
Reddit users were also shocked by his parents’ reaction, with one user commenting: “Really damn weird he thinks dogs are ev*l when they have been given the title man’s best friend. My stepdad had a dog he named Psycho when he was a kid, and he loved to yell it out.”
Another said: “Make your parents happy and tell them the dog’s name is Louis Christian Fur.”
