Monica Lewinsky was quick to throw some shade at Jennifer Aniston over her ‘famous for doing nothing’ comments.
The Friends star caused controversy when she sat down for an interview with Pam & Tommy star Sebastian Stan, during which she shared her thoughts about the way the likes of Lewinsky and Paris Hilton’s popularity was shaped by the internet culture.
The two were talking about Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson tape leak in 1995, which his Hulu series starring Stan and Lily James was based upon.
“It was right at the time when the internet really shaped a new culture about people becoming famous,” Aniston said.
“This thing of people becoming famous for basically doing nothing but yet having these incredible careers. And then women’s reputation… I mean — Paris Hilton, Monica Lewinsky, all those,” Aniston said.
Even though Lewinsky has yet to issue a response to Aniston’s remarks, she made her feelings on the subject clear by liking a Twitter post which slammed stars who ‘preach empowerment to demean another woman’s past.’
In the post, Twitter user @ernestsewell blasted ‘hypocrites’ who bashed Lewinsky over the years.
“Even @Beyonce, Ms. Female-in-Power (who I do love and enjoy) used Ms. Lewinsky’s name in a song about… well, something. For women who preach empowerment to demean another woman’s past [and] drag her out for the sake of it looks really hypocritical,” the post reads.
Another user said in a different post: “I wonder if @lizzo asked Lorena Bobbitt to use her name & her violent actions, the way hundreds of rappers & comedians use @MonicaLewinsky ‘s name as a pejorative, forgetting the actual woman behind it; who has feelings, a spirit, their own mental health to maintain, and dignity.”
Aniston’s remarks immediately sparked a furious response from people who think her thoughts about gaining popularity were ironic because her parents are Days of Our Lives actor John Aniston and late actress Nancy Dow.
