A furious mother has slammed their local childcare center after her 2-year-old daughter broke her ankle.
The mom from Cairns claimed that the toddler was left without medical care for six hours and that the staff were not sure why the young girl had been upset.
Speaking to Cairns Post, she explained that she dropped her two daughters off at the center on September 14. When she returned to pick them up at 2:30 p.m., her 2-year-old daughter was asleep.
But when the toddler woke up, she was crying in pain and could not stand up.
“(The staff) weren’t sure why she had been upset all day,” the mom said, adding that the staff told her that the child tripped earlier in the day.
“She wouldn’t stop crying even with me holding her. I was getting stressed. She wouldn’t let me put her down… she screamed all the way home,” she went on.
The mother called an ambulance as soon as they returned home and her daughter was taken to Cairns Hospital where x-ray images showed that her daughter had a fracture in the lower part of her left tibia.
Doctors said that the injury was ‘more common with athletes,’ the mom expressed, adding that doctors said her daughter (would) had been in agonizing pain all day.
A photo taken at 8 am shows the young girl playing on a trampoline. Another image taken at around 1 pm shows her crying on the floor while her sister tries to comfort her.
“The (1pm) picture of my child is of her crying and laying flat on the floor … and her sister trying to console her. Where was the care there?” the furious mother asked.
The center claims they only became aware of the claims five days after the mother posted the story on social media.
“At this point in time we still have not received any direct communication from the child’s family,” the center said.
“We have every confidence the department’s investigation process will clear both the center and our staff of any wrongdoing or neglect.”
