A mother was left fuming after her daughter’s PE teacher sent the child home and accused her of having bad manners over a “completely natural” act.
The woman in question revealed that her daughter had come home from school upset because her physical education teacher called her out in front of the entire class and accused her of having bad manners over a burp.
The mom also said her daughter was sent home early as part of the teacher’s “harsh” and “ridiculous” reaction toward a burp.
After asking the internet for advice, fellow Mumsnet readers advised the mother to further investigate the matter as there could be more to the burp than her daughter let her know.
“Did the loud burp follow 15 minutes of whispering to her friend, giggling and trying to make the person in front of her laugh?” someone wrote.
“Was she accidentally burping or was she deliberately being disruptive or disrespectful. I’d be very surprised if it was a simple as your daughter is making out. Loud burping is gross and disrespectful – most people can control it,” another suggested.
A third pondered: “I suspect that there’s more to this story than she has shared with you and that she had been messing about for most of the lesson and the teacher had had enough.”
One parent said: “Kids sometimes downplay the mischief they do big time. It’s quite possible that it wasn’t just a normal burp. Ask the teacher what really prompted them to react this way before putting a blame on the school.”
