A disgruntled mom whose daughter complained about her teacher’s punishment methods has spoken out and sought advice on the internet.
The mother in question took matters to Reddit where she revealed that she has a seven-year-old daughter who recently told her she was afraid to go to class because of her teacher’s “zero-tolerance” policy that sees misbehaving children punished by being compared to dogs.
According to the upset mom, the teacher would call the kids who break rules by her dog’s name – Cooper – and tell them to stop acting like dogs.
While her daughter never broke any rules and is known to be a good student, the girl is now allegedly scared that she will make a mistake and be mocked in front of the entire class by the teacher.
“She said the teaching assistant gets really angry when the class misbehaves and tells them to stop acting like dogs,” the mother wrote in her post.
“My daughter says she calls some of the boys on her table by her dog’s name when they’re acting up. The woman’s dog is called Cooper and she uses this on boys and girls in the class.”
The angry mother went on to say that she was both “shocked” and “disgusted” after learning that her daughter’s teacher is treating the children like dogs.
“I’m in shock and disgusted at how this woman, who has a duty of care to our children, is treating them. She is literally treating them like dogs,” the mother raged on.
“My daughter is terrified of her. I’m dreading the day she comes home in tears over this. I’m not sure how long this has been going on for or if any other mums or the teacher is aware. I will be asking around the playground when I collect her this afternoon.”
After asking people for advice on handling the matter, the mother was met with mixed responses.
While most readers were quick to agree with the mom and slam the teacher for her “old-fashioned” and “cruel” approach to disciplining disobedient children, some suggested she may not have had bad intentions.
