A woman who just gave birth to her baby has returned how she was left furious because her mother refused to take care of her child.
Sharing her story on Reddit, the 29-year-old mom explained that her mother, 64, didn’t want to assist with childcare unless she’s paid $20 an hour.
“I asked my mom to help me take care of my newborn so I could go back to work once my leave is up,” she wrote.
“Mind you, my mom is 64, has been a homemaker/stay-at-home-mom since 1992, and hasn’t been part of the workforce since then,” the woman continued.
She then revealed how the grandmother decline her request because she’s ‘too old and that she already raised her kids.’
Her mom also suggested that she should quit her job so she could take care of the baby as her partner already has a job.
But the young mom explained that they are grappling with responsibilities and debts and they need a bigger home for their growing family.
“I want to save money to bring down our debt, and don’t want to pay her as much nor invest as much in double of everything as it will spiral into more debt for me and my partner,” she added.
Reddit users were left divided but many said that it was the parents’ responsibility to take care of their children.
One person wrote: “Sorry to be blunt and rude but maybe don’t have a child if you can’t afford to take care of them. And if your plan was always go back to work you should [have] discussed that during the pregnancy with your mom.”
Another said: “The mom is 64. She watches tv and cooks…because she’s retired!!!!! Childcare is a very demanding job.”
