A mother has come under fire after revealing that she prepares her child’s school lunches several weeks in advance.
Sharing her motherly hack to save time with the internet, a mom named Elise revealed that she prepares batches of up to thirty sandwiches to avoid preparing fresh school lunch for her child every morning.
The mom also revealed that she freezes the sandwiches and takes one out of the freezer every night so that they are fully thawed when her child takes them to school.
“Just to be clear; I don’t expect my child to eat soggy sandwiches. They defrost well overnight. I also don’t expect my child to eat frozen sandwiches. They are defrosted the night before,” the woman wrote as she shared a picture of a large batch of sandwiches in plastic wrap.
Defending her choice of food for her child, the mother revealed she adds ingredients with high water content, such as veggies, in the morning before her child goes to school. She continued: “We add all those things on the morning of eating. Let the sandwich defrost overnight on bench and then add the salad that morning.”
While some parents praised the woman for finding a way to save time, others blasted her for feeding “old” sandwiches to her child instead of preparing fresh meals of different varieties on a daily basis.
“I’ve never frozen a sandwich, I just don’t think they will taste the same defrosted. Is the bread soggy or still taste fresh?” someone pondered.
“Kids need fresh food not frozen sandwiches!” another wrote.
Some parents, however, rushed to the mother’s defense saying sandwiches prepared in advance taste just as well as those that are made fresh.
“I have about a three-week supply of sandwiches as I have three kids and a hubby as well. It works great … I make sure I go to the bakery and buy my bread fresh and do it on the day! No complaints here from anyone,” one mother wrote.
“My dad was a single father raising three children and worked full time – he always did this on a Sunday night for school lunches. We never complained, always tasted just fine,” another user said.
