Picking a name for your baby can be exciting but also daunting at the same time as you are not sure whether your family will also like it or not.
One woman has revealed that she’s considering changing her name choice after seeing the way her mother and other people reacted.
Taking to the internet, the unnamed mother revealed that she and her husband decided to name their son Damien.
But after telling her family about the moniker, they immediately said it sounded ‘dem*nic.’
She said that the reaction wouldn’t bother her but she already had some problems with the name of her first son.
“My husband and I have talked about it and decided on Damien Levi for our second son’s name, but we live in a very ‘Christian heavy’ area and have gotten so many negative reactions to Damien. My mother especially refuses to even acknowledge the name we’ve picked and uses a nickname instead,” she wrote.
“She says it’s ‘dem*nic’ because of the child from The Omen, but our first son is named after a character from a horror movie as well,” she continued.
The woman added that she’s a ‘self-conscious person’ and it makes her feel bad to receive a negative reaction from her mother and other people.
“Should I talk to my husband about picking a different name or try and ignore the comments and looks I get from the name choice?” she asked.
Many were quick to share their thoughts on the matter, with one person writing: “Well your mum is wrong as Damien is of Greek origin and means to tame/subdue. Also, Damian was a Christian saint.”
Another wrote: “Madness that a name can be labeled as dem*nic. That aside, if you can’t brush off the criticism then you are probably best changing the name. If it was me I would rename him Lucifer Beelzebub.”
