‘Desperate Housewives’ star Neal McDonough has finally explained why she refuses to kiss any of his co-stars.
In an interview with Closer Weekley, the 57-year-old actor opened up about his commitment to his wife, Ruve Robertson, and explained that his lips are meant only for her.
“I won’t kiss any other woman because these lips are meant for one woman,” he expressed.
McDonough turned down romantic scenes that involve kissing his co-stars. While his dedication is indeed impressive, he also lost many job opportunities.
He recalled how he lost a $1 million gig in 2020 because he refused to participate in romantic scenes with an actress, Page Six reported.
“After that, I couldn’t get a job because everybody thought I was this religious zealot. I am very religious. I put God and family first, and me second. That’s what I live by. It was hard for a few years,” he continued.
McDonough went on: “But I was not going to lose the fight. And it worked. My career has been phenomenal.”
Even though he’s firm with his decision, his career has thrived.
The actor appeared on Desperate Housewives and played the husband of Nicollette Sheridan’s character. He recalled how he had a conversation with the show’s creator, Marc Cherry, telling him that he won’t kiss anybody.
But Cherry was still very supportive and said: “All right, I’m just going to have to write better.”
McDonough has been married to his wife since 2003. Their romantic story started in 2001 when they came across each other on St. Patrick’s Day.
“We literally bumped into each other on the street, locked eyes, and that was it,” he recalled, and he knew instantly that she was the one for him.
“The next morning, I called the woman I was dating at the time and said, ‘I’m sorry, it’s not going to work out with us anymore — I just met the woman I’m going to marry,’” he added.
