A mother has been left confused after her friends winced when she told them the classic name she picked for her baby girl.
Taking to Reddit, the mom explained that she and her husband decided to give their daughter a ‘proper’ name that has no negative connotations throughout history.
“I find it a nice elegant alternative in a sea of Charlotte’s and Florence’s,” she said.
But the name they picked has not been well-received by her loved ones.
“People have recoiled when we have said her name is Beatrice,” the mom continued. “In a world of names like Ocean, Cove, Soul, and an abundance of Olivia, Florence, Mabel, and Lilys I’m surprised people are almost repulsed by a classic vintage name.”
Fortunately, the mother said that she won’t let her family or friends change her mind. But she wanted others to know if the name is ‘odd.’
Reddit users were quick to support the mother’s decision, with one person commenting: “I don’t find it odd at all. I find it weird you’re getting that reaction! I will say I do prefer something like Bianca a for feminine B name. But Beatrice is very nice!”
Another said: “I love Beatrice! It’s classic, upbeat, not overly used, has a great meaning, and has great nicknames! Definitely not odd.”
A third added: “I’m personally not a fan at all, but it’s a classic and I don’t see anything wrong with it objectively! Just hate the way it sounds.”
Someone else added: “There’s nothing wrong with it, and I certainly wouldn’t actually recoil, but you’d get a generic/neutral response from me. But you’ll also never please everyone no matter what, and Beatrice is far from the worst name out there.”
