A photographer has hit the headlines after sharing stunning photos showing the statue of Christ the Redeemer appearing as if it was holding the moon.
Leonardo Sens is a Brazilian photographer who found the perfect spot for taking a picture of Rio de Janeiro’s main attraction – the statue of Christ the Redeemer – and the passing moon.
According to Mr. Sens, he was attempting to take the perfect shot for three years before he finally found the right spot some seven miles away from the statue.
In one of the photos shared by the photographer, the moon is seen passing directly above the statue, making it appear as if the structure was supporting the celestial object.
“In the end, everything went well and I was able to register the long-awaited photo,” Sens said in an interview with G1.
Sens also explained that he used various apps to try and determine the exact time the moon would pass by the statue from his perspective.
Studying the moon’s position, however, wasn’t the only obstacle he encountered on his way. Sens also had to find the right spot with the unobstructed view while ensuring the photo was taken on a clear day free of clouds that could ruin the perfect moment.
The photos have since gone viral with viewers calling them everything from magical to stunning.
“I have seen several pictures of the moon but you managed to leave the perfect angle in a memorable way,” someone expressed.
“Beautiful. It feels so special and magical in a way,” another said.
A third wrote: “You’ve done a wonderful job, these are once in a lifetime pics indeed.”
