People noticed a strange detail in the photos of Prince Charles and Princess Diana and it’s leaving them confused to this day.
Hundreds of pictures were taken of Charles and Diana over the course of their marriage – from their engagement to the birth of their sons Prince William and Prince Harry.
But fans noticed something odd in some of their photos as many of the images show the Prince of Wales standing a few inches taller than Diana when both of them were exactly 1.78m or under 5ft 9.
When looking at some of their photos, it is evident that they have the same height.
Diana even picked her wedding shoes carefully to make sure that she would not appear taller than Charles, opting for a flat shoe instead of heels.
But it seemed as if the couple were arranged to make the Prince of Wales look much taller than Diana.
The issue comes after a picture of an old stamp featuring Charles and Diana went viral.
Many people were quick to share their thoughts, with one person commenting: “That’s why she always tilted her head down. She also wore flats or very short heels.”
Some also suggested that Charles was ‘standing on a box’ in some of their photos to make people think that he was taller than his wife.
According to the article published on The Society Pages, it may have something to do with the societal expectation that men should be taller than women.
“When Charles and Diana were posed together formally,” Lisa Wade PhD, a professor at Occidental College said. “However, they were typically arranged so as to suggest that he was significantly taller than her, or at least to disguise the fact that he was not.
“This effort to make Charles appear taller is a social commitment to the idea that men are taller and women shorter. When our own bodies, and our chosen mates, don’t follow this rule, sometimes we’ll go to great lengths to preserve the illusion.”
