A pregnant mom broke down in tears after discovering the gender of their fourth baby.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Kendra Evens revealed how she and her husband felt after finding out that they would be having a baby girl after welcoming three girls already.
“I knew it was my last and after already having three amazing daughters, it was only natural that I, of course, wanted a boy,” she said.
“On top of that, all three of my pregnancies with my daughters were all the exact same, but with this last pregnancy everything was so different so in my head I swore it was a boy,” Kendra continued.
The mom and dad’s disappointment were recorded and shared on TikTok where they received backlash for their reactions.
In the viral video, Kendra and her family can be seen with watching a Jack-O-Lantern that had smoke coming out of it.
The smoke then turned pink and the pregnant mom started crying.
One of their daughters asked: “We get a girl?”
Kendra, who was clearly disappointed, also asked: “What? Why do we have to get a girl?”
The person filming the moment can be heard saying: “Girl gang all day!”
Kendra kept on crying while her husband comforted her by rubbing her back.
After receiving backlash, the mother-of-four took to TikTok and defended her reaction, saying: “Going into the gender reveal, I was hesitant on doing anything because I didn’t want to be disappointed in front of people if it wasn’t a boy, but then I was reminded it was my last pregnancy and I didn’t want to have any regrets.”
Kendra also said she was hit by all of the emotions and ‘couldn’t help but cry.’
“And all of these thoughts came flooding, thoughts that I’ll never have a son, never be able to experience what it’s like to have a mother-son bond, to have a ‘mama’s boy,’ or anything like that,” she continued.
The mom also defended her eldest daughter’s reaction, who she said wanted to have a brother.
“My oldest daughter in the video clearly didn’t mask her initial disappointment, ever since her first sibling she always wanted a brother,” she said.
“Gender disappointment is real, both for mom and/or dad. Our feelings are valid as humans and gender disappointment should be more normalized. You don’t know anyone’s situation or feelings, and just because somebody is initially disappointed doesn’t mean baby is not loved.”
Many parents agreed with her, with one person commenting: “Same but with four boys. I feel you 100000$ and its so valid!”
Another wrote: “Preggo with girl #5. You’re right, it’s real but we always get through it and become content and happy with the gender.”
