A pregnant mother has shared how she walked away from her baby shower because of her mother-in-law’s selfish acts.
Sharing her story on Reddit, the 25-year-old woman explained that her husband and his mother have always been close but it is causing some problems between them.
When she announced that they were expecting a girl at her baby shower, her mother-in-law immediately hugged her son even before the wife had the chance.
The annoyed wife said: “My husband and his mother are very close, I thought that after marriage I could have him all to myself but it never happened – my mother-in-law is always there.”
When her husband proposed to her, his mother was there.
“The wedding was all about her, she was crying and everyone was around her,” she continued, adding that her husband visits his mom daily.
Sharing details about her baby shower, the pregnant mom continued: “I didn’t want a huge party I honestly just wanted to know the gender of the baby in a fun and unique way and to take pictures with my husband. We had the balloon gender reveal.”
“As soon as we popped the balloon I went for a hug but my mother-in-law hugged my husband before I did,” the wife continued.
The 25-year-old shared that she just stood back and watched her mother-in-law hug and kiss him before he turned around to embrace her.
“I told his mother that she is always doing this – pushing me back and this was our moment,” she went on. “I quickly began to cry and she stood there like she did nothing. My husband told me that what’s important is that we are having a baby girl. I went and sat in the living room away from the party until his mother left.”
The woman then said that she and her mother-in-law talked about what happened over tea.
“We sat down and we had tea she was very devastated. She spoke to my husband in front of me and told him that he is a father now and his top priority is his family. She apologized for ruining the moment but she said that my husband is her only son and she was so happy for the both of us,” she added.
Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts, with one person saying: “She does seem to have some attention-grabbing tendencies, but her genuine apologies say a lot.”
Another said: You might be legally married but you in no way have a husband. You do not want to raise your daughter in a situation like this so she’ll grow up to believe she should be number 2 (or lower) in her future husband’s eyes!”
