After a 19-year-old raised more than $186,000 for an 81-year-old Walmart employee Nola Carpenter so she could finally retire, another TikToker has raised more than $100,000 for an 82-year-old worker.
Just recently, Devan Bonagura managed to raise $186,000 so Carpenter could finally pay off her mortgage.
He took to TikTok and uploaded a video of the elderly woman sitting in the breakroom and wrote: “Life shouldn’t be this hard.”
His video quickly went viral and it prompted him to set up a GoFundMe page. It managed to accumulate $186,000, more than the amount Nora needed to finally pay off her mortgage.
Because of that, Rory McCarty decided to set up a GoFundMe page for 82-year-old Butch, who was working behind a cash register at his local Walmart.
“82yr old Butch still putting in work. Has anybody seen the videos where a guy raised 180g’s to help an 82yr old Walmart employee retire. We ought to do that for Butch. Who would donate?” the caption read.
Rory’s video has been viewed more than two million times and has gained over 200,000 likes.
Only two days after setting up a GoFundMe page, it has raised $98,000 of its $100,000 target.
In another video, Butch revealed that he had been working since he was 11 and had spent ten years in the Navy.
He also said that he would use the donations to spend his final ’10 or 12 years’ with his children in Florida.
TikTokers gave their best wishes to the hardworking employee, with one person commenting: “This man should not have to be working at all! Our veterans come last in this country these days. God bless him and you.”
Another wrote: “It is our job as a society to take care of our elders.”
