‘I REFUSE To Buy My Kids Christmas Gifts Or Pretend That Santa Is Real Because I Think They Need A Reality Check But Am I In The Wrong?’

Receiving gifts from Santa Claus is a part of the Christmas magic for children but one mom has shared that she refused to make her children believe that Santa is real because ‘they need a reality check’.

Writing in Daily Mail’s ‘Dear Jane’ column, the mother explained that she hates the holidays because she would have to be criticized by others over how she treats her children.

“I’ve never let my kids buy into the whole lie about Santa – I think it’s stupid,” she wrote.

The mother continued: “Ever since they were old enough to understand what Santa was, I’ve told them he’s not a real man, that he’s a symbol of Christmas for some people.”

She then shared her reasons why she decided to tell her children the truth about Santa.

“First, I don’t think it’s right to lie to children and create some silly fantasy that will inevitably be shattered and leave them heartbroken.

“But I also don’t want my children to think that Christmas is just about the gifts, which so many kids do.”

The mom then went on and said that she has always raised her kids to see the holidays as one for spreading joy, for doing acts of kindness, and also for being with family.

She concluded her post: “How can I make my loved ones see that I’m not a Scrooge – just a realist?”

Jane replied by saying that the concept of performing acts of service for others was ‘lovely.’

“I would completely ignore what other people are saying, and continue do celebrate in the way that’s right for your family,” she said, adding that she thought the mother had her ‘values firmly in the right place’ and that her children are lucky to have her as their mom.
