No one enjoys being seated next to a crying baby when traveling or having dinner at a fancy restaurant but it is understandable that it is also not relaxing for the parents who are doing their best to keep their bundle of joys from wailing.
But one woman was left furious after her restaurant experience was ruined by a baby who was crying so loud and said the little one’s parents should’ve left as soon as fussing began.
Taking to Reddit, the woman explained that she is a mother of two and she went out for a fancy meal with her husband for the first time since they welcomed their second child.
The couple hired a babysitter to watch over their children as they went out on their date.
Feeling very excited, the wife’s enjoyment was short-lived after another couple with a baby arrived and sat next to their table.
But as soon as they sat down, the baby began to cry.
“My husband and I went out for dinner a couple of nights ago. It was our first time by ourselves after our baby was born. It’s my second child, the first for my husband so it was kind of a big deal for us. We got a babysitter and we went to a very nice fancy restaurant,” she wrote.
But only minutes after they ordered, another couple with a small baby in a stroller sat on a table next to them. The baby started to cry and even though they managed to comfort him and make him sleep, he would wake up right away and cry.
“We just wanted to leave but we had already ordered so we decided to ask the waiter if we could change tables to sit at the other end of the restaurant,” she went on.
When the waiter asked if there was any problem, she explained that it was their first time to go on a date after their second child was born and they didn’t want to spend their evening listening to someone else’s wailing baby.
“The couple with the baby overheard what we said to the waiter and the mum got upset and called me an a******. She went on and on saying that I probably don’t have kids (I have 2), and that babies are also people and we should just accept that babies can be loud and cry and there’s nothing she could do about it,” she continued.
The furious woman was so annoyed by the comments that she told her she should’ve taken her baby out of the restaurant and went home as soon as the fussing started.
“I didn’t want to start a fight or anything but I got really annoyed by her attitude,” she added.
People on Reddit agreed with the woman, with one person writing: “People with crying babies should get up and take them out of the dining room to soothe them. Yes, even if it means coming back to a cold plate.”
Another said: “If you can’t calm down your crying baby, I’m sorry, but you need to leave. The baby isn’t enjoying themselves at that point any more than the parents or the other patrons.”
