A retired couple ended up booking 51 back-to-back cruises after they realized that it was cheaper but way more fun than a retirement home.
Jess and Marty Ansen boarded the Coral Princess two years after the pandemic lockdowns. During their relaxing journey, they have enjoyed mouthwatering buffets, danced, saw the beautiful world, and made new friends.
The great-grandparents are expected to stay onboard the 2,000-passenger vessel for two years.
Speaking to A Current Affair, Marty said that he tells his agent to book ‘whatever comes’ and they have outlasted most of the people on the ship.
“The wheels change over but we stay on board,” Marty said.
“We welcome the different captains on board,” Jess added.
Ren van Rooyen, the hotel manager on board the ship, said that seeing the loving couple felt like seeing her own family.
“We always make a joke that I go away and I come back and it’s like coming to see my family – my mum and dad again – they’re like my second mum and dad on board,” Van Rooyen expressed.
The couple now enjoys the perks that come with their new lifestyle, such as indulgent meals and quality entertainment like dancing.
“Where else can you go? You go for dinner, you go to a show, you go dancing. Through the day, you have all these activities,” Jess said.
They started their day playing ping pong or enjoying some beers on their balcony while enjoying breathtaking views.
The couple also don’t have any chores as there are housekeepers who clean their room every day.
“So now we have to stay on board just to stay alive,” Marty added.
