The Duke of Sussex made ‘rude comments’ to journalists covering a royal tour to South Pacific in 2018, a royal author has claimed.
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan spent 16 days traveling around Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji on their first tour in 2018.
The couple were truly popular during their royal visit, with huge crowds arriving to see a glimpse of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they attended more than 70 engagements.
But in a book written by The Times’ royal correspondent Valentine Low, it is claimed that Harry made rude comments to journalists even though his press handlers promised he would show his gratitude for the media for being there.
Mr. Low wrote in his new book ‘Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown’ that Harry and Meghan appeared after the plane landed, with the Duke ‘sounding rushed’ when he told reporters: “Thanks for coming.”
Harry then added: “Even though you weren’t invited.”
An extract of the book reads: “This was spectacularly rude — and incorrect. The media had been invited to cover the tour.”
The Sussexes’ staff are later said to have told the Prince ‘how badly’ the remark had been received, to which Harry responded: “Well, you shouldn’t have made me do it.”
Harry has previously slammed the media by saying he feared ‘history was repeating itself,’ referring to the tragic death of his mother the late Princess Diana.
The Duke once said in a statement: “There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behavior, because it destroys people and destroys lives.
“I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person.
“I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”
