‘My Selfish Husband Spends An Hour In The Shower When He Should Be Helping Me With Our Kids But Am I The One Being Unreasonable Here?’

An exhausted mother has shared how her husband spends too long in the shower when he ‘should be helping’ her with their children.

Writing on Reddit, the mom explained that her husband works as a construction worker while she stays at home for their kids.

She said that everything would be fine if he did not spend an hour in the bathroom while she was left tending to their kids, aged 1 and 3.

“His job is pretty physical, and he works really hard. He gets up at 5 a.m. and gets home by 6.30 pm. My days are usually around the same, give or taken an extra hour in the morning,” she wrote.

The mom went on and explained that every time her husband got home, he would go straight to the bathroom to take a shower for an hour.

“This would be one thing if he was quick, but he takes at least 25 minutes on the toilet and 25-minute showers.”

The frustrated wife said that she couldn’t start dinner as their kids kept on hanging off her legs, crying and screaming at the same time.

She asked her husband to wait until the kids go to bed. “I really have a two-hour window to get dinner ready, eat, clean up the dishes, clean up their chairs, get them ready for bed, get them bathed etc,” she continued.

Her husband complied at first but he then told her that it was not fair to ask him to take care of the kids in dirty clothes for two hours.

“Which I understand, it’s uncomfortable, but you know, I’ve been alone with the kids for 13 hours’ straight, every day. I have stuff I still need to get done, too. My kids are in their tantrum phase as well, which has been really hard,” she expressed.

Her husband then said that she was being selfish when she asked him to wait but she felt that her husband was being selfish by rushing to the bathroom and spending an hour there.

“I literally just want him to watch the kids for 30 minutes so I can get dinner done, and then he has the entire rest of the evening to himself,” she added.

Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts on the situation, with one person suggesting: “He should take a quick 15-minute shower when he comes home, so he can be helping.”

Another said: “He needs that ‘me time’ but he needs to give you some help with the kids in that window of time.”
