An angry young woman sought advice on the internet after her sister-in-law ordered her to pay $50 for a ‘poor’ Christmas dinner at her place.
As the lady in question revealed, her sister-in-law proposed to host the Christmas dinner at her big new house while suggesting she and the guests split the cost after she’s done shopping for ingredients.
“My sister-in-law said she would host Christmas this year as she has a big new house and plenty of room for us all. I asked if I should bring something and she said she would just do a shop and split the cost,” the woman wrote in her Mumsnet post.
“She did suggest we bring our own alcohol. I thought it was a little odd, as did my hubby but he reminded me that she was cheap and the food wouldn’t cost that much anyway! Best to just agree with it instead of making a fuss.”
While the dinner went as planned without any setbacks, the woman and her husband were in for a major shock when the sister-in-law called them and said they should pay $50 each for the food.
As the woman revealed, they only ate “basic” Christmas dinner without dessert and some cereal and tinned soup throughout the day.
What’s more is that she and her hubby brought five bottles of wine even though they only helped finish one bottle themselves while leaving the rest at her sister-in-law’s place.
“Am I being unreasonable to feel angry and insulted by this all? It doesn’t seem right to hand over money. Especially to family,” the woman added.
“Also, I feel really ripped off! I don’t want to upset my husband, but his family is a new level of cheap. If I did that to my brother, he probably wouldn’t speak to me again!”
After sharing her story, the woman quickly received loads of support from people who thought it was rude of the sister-in-law to ask for so much money after receiving four bottles of wine for free.
Others also questioned the sister’s motives saying she might have waited with her bill until after dinner so that it would be harder for the couple to turn her down.
