There is a buzz in the air in a quiet town in California after the winning ticket for the second-largest Powerball jackpot in history was purchased there.
With just more than 3,000 residents, Frazier Park lies around 75 miles north of Los Angeles.
The winning ticket was bought from The Midway Market & Liquor store, which has been co-owned by Nidal ‘Andy’ Khalil since 1994.
He said he found out about the life-changing win through social media.
“I didn’t even believe it at first. I think this could be the biggest thing that’s ever happened at Frazier Park. I hope it is one of my regular customers because we have a few who buy tickets every day,” Andy said.
He is also thrilled by the exciting events as he will also receive an eye-watering payout for selling the history-making ticket – his store is entitled to a whopping $1 million prize.
Andy said that he plans to reserve a part of the money for his children’s college education.
Andy’s nephew, Chris Khalil, also works at the store and said he was surprised by the news. Money will surely come in handy for him as he plans to get married in the next few months.
The incredible news spread quickly, with many residents hoping the winner would allocate some funds towards the restoration of public parks and other infrastructure repairs.
Nick Miller, one of the inhabitants, compared the winnings to the fortune of big stars like Kim Kardashian.
“If it was me, I wouldn’t tell anyone because that’s Kim Kardashian-like money. That’s no joke,” he said.
