Four strangers went on a 20-hour road trip after their Christmas plans got interrupted because of a canceled flight.
Shobi Maynard, Abby Radcliffe, Greg Henry, and Bridget Schuster were left stranded at Tampa International Airport just before Christmas after their flight to Cleveland was canceled last minute due to a snowstorm.
Determined to get back home in time to celebrate Christmas with their respective families, the four strangers turned friends decided to team up and drive twenty hours across the country.
As the group explained, they rented a car, fueled up, and shared personal stories to make their trip more bearable.
“In my head I’m thinking, I already know there’s not going to be any more flights today. Especially to Cleveland, especially knowing there’s a storm,” Henry said.
“As we’re just all talking, I think at some it’s just all of us were like, ‘Yeah, we’re doing it.’”
Abby added: “And we just looked at each other and we’re like, ‘Are you in?’ ‘Yeah, we’re in. Let’s go for it.’”
Once the pact was formed, the group documented their journey in a series of clips that went viral and received lots of praise on TikTok.
When the trip came to an end, all four young people were reunited with their families. They also forged a strong bond and vowed to keep in touch with each other from now on.
“We got into some very deep, deep conversation about our lives and what we’ve been going through. It’s like we just met these people but it’s like, literally from the beginning we just had that connection,” Shobi explained.
“I had no idea when I was going to start this — I was just going to take a quiet drive home, get home, be done. This was a whole adventure,” Greg added.
