Tim Allen has criticized the Toy Story spin-off movie, Lightyear, after he was replaced by Chris Evans in voicing the beloved character.

In an interview with Extra, the conservative star slammed the film after it flopped on its opening weekend.

Even though he liked the story, the 69-year-old blasted the movie’s lack of continuity to the Toy Story franchise.

“It’s a wonderful story, it just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy,” Allen expressed. “It has no relationship to Buzz.”

He also said that it has been discussed several years ago “but the brass that did the first four movies is not this. It’s a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.

“I’ve stayed out of this.”

Allen, who voiced Buzz Lightyear alongside Tom Hans who voiced Woody, also said he did not initially think Lightyear would be animated like the previous Toy Story movies.

He reprised the role in other sequel films, and also voiced Buzz in Toy Story 4.

“There’s really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody. I’m not sure what the idea—I’m a plot guy. It would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see, it’s not a big adventure story,” he said.

The movie flopped in its first weekend in theaters, earning only $51.7 million in North America. It was also pulled from 14 countries for including a gay kissing scene.

Many Toy Story fans had wondered whether Allen was replaced by Chris Evans because of his support for the Republican party and conservative politics.

He reportedly said he “liked that Donald Trump pissed people off” and has referred to himself as “politically, kind of an anarchist.”

Allen also told Fox that those who criticize Trump in Hollywood are hypocrites. “What I find odd in Hollywood is that they didn’t like Trump because he was a bully,” he said.

“But if you had any kind of inkling that you were for Trump, you got bullied for doing that. And that’s where this gets a little hypocritical to me.”
