A concerned man and father-to-be has spoken out and revealed that his wife left him after he disagreed with the name she chose for their upcoming baby.
The 25-year-old husband in question said he and his wife are expecting their first child together. He also revealed they had just recently found out the baby’s gender and decided to come up with a list of potential names for their firstborn.
While the man liked the majority of his wife’s suggestions, there was a “strange” name he immediately said no to – the same name his wife desperately pushed for.
The name? Mune.
“The only major fight we have had throughout her pregnancy happened a couple of days ago, and it was about what we were going to name our kid,” the man wrote in his viral post.
“She suggested we name our son Mune. She told me the name was from a movie she watched when she was younger and that it always stuck with her. I told her the name was a little out there and he would get made fun of for it. She claimed he wouldn’t and we started going back and forth trying to decide whether to add the name to the list or not.”
While the wife eventually agreed to drop the name, the husband was in for a big surprise when his mother-in-law threw them a third-trimester baby shower.
“It was fine for the most part until we started to open the gifts. Most of them were normal baby things like diapers and bottles until we got to her mum’s gift. My wife opened the gift bag and pulled out a blue handmade blanket,” the man continued.
“It seemed normal enough at first until my wife unfolded it and low and behold there was the name Mune written on the blanket. When I saw it I was annoyed but didn’t want to cause a scene so I stayed quiet. After that reveal, I had family members come up to me and ask me about the name and why I hadn’t told them.”
After the party, the man confronted his wife about the name only for the 23-year-old mom-to-be to get “defensive” and accuse him of overreacting after choosing the name he hated behind his back.
Refusing to back down, the man called the name stupid, prompting his pregnant wife to call her mother to pick her up.
“After she left she called me and told me she wouldn’t be coming back for a while,” the man concluded.
His story has since been making rounds on Reddit where stunned viewers branded the man’s wife as “ridiculous” and “incredibly wrong.”
“It’s your kid too. and Mune is an incredibly stupid name,” someone wrote.
“Both parents have to agree to the name. It doesn’t matter if it’s boring, weird, or ridiculous – both have to agree,” another said.
A third added: “Your wife is being pretty ridiculous about the name. That’s an awful name and you’re right that the kid will be bullied for this. Your wife is incredibly wrong for deciding to name the child that name anyway, regardless of what you think. It’s just as much your child as it is hers.”
