38-year-old Laura Young from Milton Keynes, England, is a married mother-of-three who isn’t shy to share her handyman husband, James, with other people who could use some help around their households.

As Laura explained, she got the idea behind ‘Rent My Handy Husband’ after listening to a podcast in which one man explained he made a living putting together furniture for other people.

Knowing that her husband is an expert in everything from painting to tiling to carpet laying, Laura decided to give their new business idea a try and do some advertising on Facebook.

While the pair initially treated their offer as a joke, they soon realized it was much more than that after receiving countless calls and requests for reservations.

Now, James is busy doing all kinds of jobs and home projects at different homes and spends five days a week working from morning to evening.

With so many clients wanting to book him for nearly $50 an hour, James was even forced to turn down plenty of jobs.

“I never expected it to take off as much as it has. We’ve only been going four months and it got to a point where there was so much work coming in that James was working six days a week,” Laura explained.

“We’ve had to start turning jobs down and reduce our hours, so now we do Monday to Friday 9 am-5 pm. We had our own building plans that we’ve not even started as we’ve just been so busy.”

Explaining the reason why her husband is perfect for the job, Laura added: “He’s really good at building things and doesn’t bother with the instructions. So I thought this would be something he could do.

“James doesn’t come from a trade background but his grandad was a nuclear engineer, and they think he was also on the spectrum. He’s got a very methodical mind and can think outside the box. He sees things differently.”

As the couple explained, James is up for almost any challenge whether it’s something simple like setting up a TV and putting together some furniture or something more complicated like tiling, laying a carpet, fixing a wall, and more.

He does, however, stay away from electrical and plumbing services.
