Will Smith has finally shared his thoughts on Jada Pinkett Smith’s bombshell memoir and their seven-year separation.
Jada previously opened up about some of the revelations made in her book, Worthy, including her unique marital situation with the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, her depression, as well as her use of hallucinogens.
Smith told the New York Times in an email that reading the memoir reminded him of how strong his wife is.
“When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in,” Will wrote.
“You can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”
During Jada’s appearance on NBC News morning show Today, she talked about her upcoming memoir and the revelations from her book. She also disclosed that she and Will have been separated for seven years.
The actress told Hota Kotb: “Yes, it was not a divorce on paper, but it was a divorce.”
Jada revealed that she and the Oscar-winning actor have been living separately since 2016.
When asked why they have decided to maintain this arrangement, the Girls Trip star said: “I think just not being ready yet. Still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in a partnership, and in regards to how do we present that to people, you know? And we hadn’t figured that out.
“I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
The actress also said that she promised herself and Will to never let their marriage result in a divorce.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise,” she added,
