A mother has opened up about her career change after going from a teacher to a professional Christmas tree decorator.
43-year-old Amanda Ware from Bentonville, Arkansas, is a mother-of-two and former school teacher who knows everything one could possibly know about picking and decorating Christmas trees.
In fact, Amanda’s passion for decorating trees turned into a real job that comes with an annual salary of up to $100,000.
As the mom-of-two explained, she decorates over one hundred trees in the months and weeks leading to Christmas. Her designs come at an average price of $1,000 per tree depending on the owners’ wishes.
“The magic truly begins whenever people put their Christmas décor up. I am in the business of making people merry,” she said in an interview with Newsweek.
While some people might think it’s a waste of time paying so much for someone to decorate your tree, Amanda is not short of customers with special wishes and unique desires.
“I say put at least 100 lights per foot of the tree, if there aren’t enough lights then it doesn’t look good,” she added as she shared a few tips to make your job easier.
“Lights give off a glow and make any evening more romantic. They also enhance all of the decorations, sometimes you can’t see the decorations because of the lack of lights.”
Adding greenery to the trees can also help a great deal according to the self-trained expert.
“One really great way to make your tree look high-end and fuller is adding different types of greenery to your already green tree,” Amanda says.
Speaking of the financial side of the business, the 43-year-old continued:
“The service fee to have a tree decorated could be anywhere between $300 to $1500 per tree depending on the size and who is decorating it. If you hire me, you are going to pay a premium.
“I have previously decorated a tree that had $10,000 worth of decorations on it, and the tree only cost $200.”
