A woman was left in tears after discovering that her house was demolished by a contractor while she was on vacation.
Susan Hodgson, 60, is an Atlanta woman who was on a holiday with her family when her Lakewood Avenue property was razed to the ground after a contractor arrived at the wrong address.
According to the devastated woman, she was on vacation when her neighbor called her and told her someone was destroying her vacant house.
“I am furious. I keep waking up thinking, is this all a joke or something? I’m just in shock,” Hodgson recalled.
“I said no and she said, ‘Well, there’s someone over here who just demolished the whole house and tore it all down.’”
Susan went on to say that the neighbor confronted the workers only to be told to “mind her own business.”
It wasn’t until the house was razed to the ground that a family member arrived at the scene and checked the contractors’ documents only to see that they targeted the wrong address.
“It’s been boarded up about 15 years, and we keep it boarded, covered, grass cut, and the yard is clean. The taxes are paid and everything is up on it,” Hodgson said of her now-destroyed property.
The frustrated woman has since filed a report with the police and hired lawyers to handle the awkward situation. She also said she hasn’t yet received any apology or explanation from You Call It We Haul It, the company allegedly involved in the incident.
“We’re still in this process of figuring out what to do. We keep pressing in different directions to see if something is going to happen,” Hodgson added.
“How do people just go up and tear somebody’s property down and then just drive off? How can they think that’s OK? I just wish he would come fix the problem that he caused.”
She continued: “It’s just hard to believe someone thinks they have the right to just come and tear something up and walk away from it and didn’t come back and say ‘I’m sorry. What do I need to do to fix this? It was an accident.’ They didn’t give me nothing.”
