When Gillian Bayford and her ex-husband won the EuroMillions lottery in August 2012, she did not expect that things would begin to go wrong for her.

In an interview with The Sun, she explained that she first gave some of her winnings to family members. But after this, she decided to cut ties with them.

“They have lost touch with where they’ve come from,” Bayford said.

She said that she bought an apartment for her parents as they were previously living in a caravan, and shared how she settled debts accumulated by her brother and late father.

Bayford then gave her brother $1 million to start a new business but their relationship worsened despite her efforts.

Heartbroken by what’s happening to her family, she told the news outlet that she and her mother no longer communicate.

“They’re rubbing people’s noses in it by flashing their cash, which I think is downright nasty,” she continued as she expressed her disappointment with her family’s behavior.

But Bayford’s mother contested the $25 million and said that it was a much lower amount.

Only 15 months after winning the lottery, Gillian separated from her husband, Adrian Bayford, who described the winning as ‘stressful.’

Emily Irwin from Wells Fargo as well as other experts advise lottery winners to consider getting the assistance of family-dynamics coaches to navigate the issues that come with sudden wealth.

Irwin also said that huge amounts of money can result in strained relationship as it can complicate family dynamics.
