A mother has been receiving positive messages after she shaved her 12-year-old daughter’s upper lip and eyebrows so she would not experience the same cruel treatment as she did as a child.
Vidya Gopalan, 38, shared a video of her shaving her daughter Sahana’s eyebrows and upper lip because her own mother did not let her shave hers when she was young.
In her video, which has received more than 29 million views, she helped Sahana remove some of her facial hair so she would not get ridiculed.
“Ain’t no way you are getting bullied for your beautiful thick Indian brows,” she said in the viral video.
While shaving Sahana’s upper lip and eyebrows, the mother-of-two revealed why she decided to remove her daughter’s facial hair.
“I remember getting made fun of when I was your age,” she said. When her daughter asked why her mother did not shave her hair, Vidya replied: “Because my mom didn’t let me.”
Vidya captioned her video: “Most gorgeous brows ever.”
People flocked to the comments section to praise the mother, with many saying that Vidya’s relationship with her daughter ‘warmed their hearts.’
One person commented: “This warms my heart!! I got teased so much and my mom didn’t let me get my brows waxed till my freshman year of high school.”
Another said: “’I use to get bullied bc of my body hair at school. People always say “Don’t listen” but it’s hard when we live in a society that judges everyone.”
A third said: “My mom did this for me. I was bullied for hairy arms and her mom didn’t let her shave. Your daughter will always thank you for this.”
