In a heartbreaking moment caught on camera, a dog owner was seen walking with her sick pooch for the last time before the animal had to be put down.
57-year-old Alison French and her cancer-stricken Shih Tzu Looby, 14, were accompanied by 30 strangers during their final stroll on the beach.
As the woman from Merseyside, England, revealed, she had to put down her dog after her 3-year battle with lymphoma cancer.
“I’m disabled and I’ve had Looby since she was a puppy. I don’t really have anyone to support me, so I posted on a few local groups to see if anyone could help me say goodbye to her,” Ms. French explained in an interview with Liverpool Echo.
“And the response was fantastic, hundreds of people have shared the post and said they would come down to the beach.”
After Looby was put to rest, Alison thanked everyone who shared her post and showed up to help her take the pooch for a final walk.
“All the lovely caring women, men and children that helped me get through today… You were all so wonderful, thoughtful, caring and really helpful,” she wrote.
“I’ve had now 1000s of lovely, beautiful helpful comments and I am so grateful to EVERY ONE OF YOU.”
Paying a tribute to her beloved dog, Alison added:
“Looby you were a brilliant dog for me. I miss you so much but at least you are up in heaven now out of pain. You can also eat what you want up there… as you hate dog food.
“Goodnight everybody. I’m going to sleep next to her tonight as she will be getting buried very soon.”
