A one-year-old rabbit named Archie and black terrier Molly died of fright from fireworks, leaving their owners heartbroken.
Susan Paterson wrote on Facebook that her 18-week-old pooch suffered a heart attack, and Donna Pilgrim shared a video of her pet rabbit shaking hours before he passed away.
Both pet owners are now calling for fireworks to be ban in restricted areas.
In the video Donna shared on Facebook, she can be heard saying: “My poor little man, he’s just had a huge amount of fireworks go off outside. As you can see, although he’s snug with his hay and his little house where he usually lays, he’s now just trembling and shaking in his bed.
“This is the cruelty and reality of fireworks, I’m just hoping and praying that he’s still with me tomorrow.”
She continued: “I found him lying on his side and shaking, he’s obviously traumatised by it all. So for that few quid’s worth going up in smoke, that could do so much more, for so many animals or people in need.
“I hope you enjoyed your five minutes of fun. I think I’ll be very lucky to have Archie in the morning.”
Donna revealed that Archie passed away only 12 hours later.
Susan also pleaded with people to think of animals as she shared a photo of Molly. “Due to the enormous amount of fireworks with loud bangs going off around Wombwell and lower Darfield last night, we lost a young terrier with a heart attack.
“Please think of the animals. Molly was only 18 weeks old and died of FRIGHT caused by fireworks.”
One internet user commented: “I had to suffer 10 days of firework noise! It started a week before Halloween and last night they were still at it. I’m fed up.”
Another wrote: “Fireworks should be either made silent like they are in other countries or only allowed at proper firework displays.”
A third added: “I’m lucky my pets don’t even notice them but when we had rabbits we always kept them indoors over bonfire night and New Year’s Eve, I personally don’t think just anyone should be able to set them off but they do and so please bring little pets indoors and create a distraction for dogs and cats so they can’t hear them at full force.”
