The student council in Oxford University has put up an unofficial ban over clapping during a student’s fears as the loud noises can be a cause of anxiety and rapid hand moments can also cause trouble for the students who are unable to clap.
The students are encouraging other forms of silent encouragement instead of clapping during the meetings.
The first student council meeting of this academic year passed the motion and use of British Sign Language clapping, which is also known as silent jazz hands.
It is very beneficial for people who are prone to have anxiety attacks and are unable to clap because of fast hand movements.
The disabled students go through a lot of trouble because of the loud noises and that’s why the student council has put up a ban on clapping because this will help them in every way.
Some students have sensory sensitivity, hearing impairment and many other anxiety disorders, and the prohibition on clapping will help them be happier during the meetings.
Snapping is also known as the new form of clapping so the Oxford student council has decided not to snap their fingers whenever they want to pass their encouragement to others because it can also trigger anxiety for some students.
Oxford University is known to be in operations since the 1050s, and it is known as the oldest and most amazing institutions for higher education.
The student council of this institution remains committed to the decisions that they take in favour of other students, and that’s why they have enabled the use of BSL during the events.
