Caito Foods for the second time in less than a year is calling back packaged fresh fruits.
This time they are calling back the packets from 16 states as they suggest a potential risk of salmonella contamination.
The company is calling back its packets of fresh cut watermelon, cut cantaloupe, cut honeydew melon, and freshly chopped fruits containing melon. This call is following a call back the company made last year.
This year the products were sent to 16 states namely, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
The products were out for sale in Walmart, Kroger, Target, Amazon/Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. So if you remember buying these products from these stores, just don’t consume it.
The company has issued an announcement asking all the consumers not to consume the products. If you’re one of the consumers to buy the products you can go to the store and give it back for a refund. You can also call on 844-467-7278 for more information on the same.
Although the case of the company is still under investigation the element salmonella has already been linked to 93 illness.
In June 2018, the sickness broke out and the Center of Diseases Control said that salmonella infection that was going around came from consuming pre-cut melons.
There were 70 reported cases of the sickness out of which 34 people were so sick that they had to be rushed to the hospital. The senior most person to be affected by the poison was 97 years old and the youngest one was less than a year old. But there was no news or reports of any death registered under the sickness.
The sickness can be dangerous. Although no death cases have been registered as of now that does not mean it cannot happen. Keep your guard up and stay away from pre-cut melon.
