Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas slammed the United States President Donald Trump’s Middle East plan during a Security Council meeting at United Nations headquarters on February 11.
He said that President Donald Trump’s Middle East plan would leave Palestinians with a state resembling “Swiss cheese”.
He also said that this is an Israeli-American pre-emptive plan and the plan would not bring peace or stability.
Mr. Abbas said in his address on Tuesday: “I have come to you today to reaffirm the Palestinian position that rejects the Israeli-American proposal.”
Trump unveiled the U.S. Middle East peace plan alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late last month.
During the Security Council meeting at United Nations headquarters, Mr. Abbas showed a proposed map and said it would make “Swiss cheese” of land Palestinians claim for a state.
He said the Trump administration’s U.S. Middle East peace plan is meant to “put an end to the question of Palestine.”
Mr. Abbas said: “It annuls the legitimacy of the Palestinian rights, our rights to self-determination, freedom, and independence, in our own state.”
“It legitimized what is illegal – settlements and confiscation and annexation of Palestinian land.”
Mr. Abbas said in his speech that the peace between the Palestinians and Israelis “is still possible” and “achievable” and they are still committed to peace as a strategic choice.
However, this deal is not an international partnership, he said.
Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon accused Abbas of refusing to be pragmatic and to negotiate.
He said: “He is not interested in finding a realistic solution to the conflict.”
Trump’s Middle East plan is the product of three years by Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner.
