This one blast radiotherapy is giving new hopes to the patients suffering from pancreatic cancer, who just have months more to live.

This newly involved therapy allows surgeons to use a portable mechanical device that sends in radiation in the body of the patient to kill cancer cells while the patient is comfortably lying on the operating table to get the tumor removed from their body.

With the therapy, the treatment is given only to the part of the body where it is needed.

Also, the radiation produced by the device to kill the cancer cells makes it very easy to reach even the most difficult areas of the body to kill the cancer cells present. This helps in ensuring cutting down the risk of cancer coming back.

The therapy started in 2017 and till now 11 patients have been benefited by the therapy. All of these patients were in a state where the doctors considered them unfit for the surgery.

But they have all been treated at the only place n the UK where the machine is available at University Hospital Southampton Trust. Out of all the 11 people that have been treated by now, none of them has reported re-growth of cancer till now.

Arjun Takhar, a surgeon at the trust says that pancreatic cancer often spreads to the nearby organs.

When the tumor is removed from the body, it is generally surrounded by a lot of veins and thus it becomes very difficult to clean all the cancer cells from the body.

This is why the new therapy is a blessing as it helps in cleaning all the cells spread around the tumor which restricts cancer from coming back.

Almost 10,000 people are diagnosed with the same cancer every year alone in the UK which is very difficult to treat but with the help of this therapy, there is a chance now.
