The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, otherwise known as North Korea, seems to be touting another propaganda cliche by randomly throwing news with no ways for the outside world to actually verify the sources of their claims. While the rest of the world is falling apart, North Korea has officially claimed zero infections to the COVID -19 pandemic. And now, amongst many other contenders in the race, it has announced it will start a novel approach to acquire vaccines for the deadly virus. According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the North Korea’s State Commission of Science and Technology is on their way to establishing the human testing of the disease now.
Considering the fact that North Korea obviously lacks the funds and the necessary professionals to really come up with a vaccine, the reasons for their sudden announcement into the pharmaceutical race is being analyzed in ways that has been typical of the state media policy: propaganda and internal morale boost.
According to sources, North defectors mostly, the influx of foreign materials in the country has seriously demised the credibility of the Kim dynasty when it came to their “supernatural” leadership and a “given” right to rule has hereditary Communist hegemony.
“Talents, science and technology are our key strategic asset and weapon,” a short piece reported by the KCNA read.
These talents, KCNA said, have “have evoked world-wide admiration. “It is thanks to the world-level horizons of our scientists and technicians and their self-esteem of living in a powerful country and deep knowledge that the power and prestige of Juche Korea are being demonstrated on the international arena,” the report read.
For external propaganda and military/diplomatic leverage, the North Korean remedy for a quick and desired response comes from nuclear armaments and their proclamation to wield its power in a reckless manner. However, the materials needed to quell the inquiries coming from its very own people and to create a sense of solidarity in times of crises, the KCNA would utilize pieces that hit close to real life for the people of North Korea – food, electricity and health – A way to cover up the gaping holes in a economically failing state.
