When hikers come across a wounded jaguar in the rainforest of Ecuador, they just couldn’t leave her alone in that condition.
The paralyzed creature was frightened, and even though they could simply continue their journey, they have decided to help the poor animal.
To make sure that the jaguar will get the aid she needed, they sought help from professionals. They arrived at the location and swooped in the gorgeous animal and took her to a hospital in Quito.
The jaguar named D’Yaria was not even one-year-old yet when the hikers found her in the jungle.
This little creature could only move her head around, and her entire body was paralyzed. Jaguars at this age are still in the care of their moms, so the rescuers believed that she was an orphan. They also named her D’Yaria, which means brave jaguar.
If the hikers did not call help to save her, D’Yaria would have died from starvation. Vets believe both this poor jaguar and her mother were attacked by farmers to protect their cattle from predators.
When they looked at her X-Ray results, they were shocked at what they saw. This paralyzed baby jaguar was shot 18 times! She was such in bad shape that doctors were not positive if she would make it.
D’Yaria underwent two spinal surgeries, and the surgeons couldn’t believe that she survived the operations. Not long after the surgical procedure, she was already struggling to stand and walk around.
She was recovering in an enclosure at an outdoor nature park. This brave jaguar is relearning how to walk again and strives to get stronger.
The medical team said that she is getting stronger every day. Once she’s fully recovered, she will be released into the wild.
To keep her safe, Darwin Animal Doctors had to purchase a satellite tracking collar. Jaguars are endangered species and hurting or killing them is considered a crime. Watch the video below to see D’Yaria’s story and how she survived.
Do you agree that D’Yaria is a brave jaguar? Thanks to those hikers who saved this poor creature’s life! If you find this story interesting, SHARE it with your family and friends!
