A couple has been arrested and charged after detectives discovered the body of their 3-year-old daughter in an acid-filled container secretly stashed in their bedroom closet.
The Texas couple, 32-year-old Gerardo Zavala Loredo and 37-year-old Monica Dominguez, were apprehended by the authorities after the officers searched their home on a search warrant.
The police were able to secure a search warrant after worried neighbors reported suspicious activities going on in the couple’s home.
Upon coming across the container located in the couple’s bedroom closet, the officers were horrified to find the child’s remains in a five-gallon container filled with acid.
Loredo and Dominguez are now facing charges of endangering a child, evidence tampering, and abuse of a corpse.
The police investigation is also in place and additional charges may follow if the couple is found responsible for the girl’s death.
According to the couple, their 3-year-old daughter drowned when she was left alone in the bathtub of their bathroom. After seeing her lifeless body, Loredo got scared and allegedly asked her partner to help her dispose of the body so that no one could ever find it.
The authorities are now on the move to examine the girl’s remains and determine whether the child has suffered physical injuries before she passed away.
“We are now going to rely on the forensic evidence … to examine the remains of the body to determine if there are any injuries consistent with a possible, with a possible murder,” the police said in a conference.
While the investigation is in place, the parents’ four other children have been handed over to Child Protective Services.
According to the reports, Loredo, who is being held on a $125,000 bond, is in the United States illegally, while Dominguez, who’s being held on a $175,000 bond, was charged with inflicting injury to a child in the past.
