Parents have been left outraged after they were told to ask their babies for permission before changing their diapers.
A childcare chain called Only About Children has managed to infuriate parents in Australia after telling them to seek permission from their babies and urging them not to change their diapers while they’re playing.
Further adding fuel to the fire, the franchise told the staff not to punish young children who hit their playmates. The workers were allegedly also ordered to share warnings with the babies before wiping their faces.
The popular chain that runs nearly two dozen centers in Victoria, however, crossed the line according to some after sending a controversial letter to parents.
“Ask for your baby’s help, talk them through what you are doing and encourage the use of senses,” an excerpt from the letter reads, The Herald Sun reported.
“When toddlers become mobile, nappy changing may look quite different. Continue to ask for co-operation but understand that your toddler may wish to now stand for their nappy change.”
As Angela Ngavaine, the education manager at Only About Children, added, staff were told to ask babies if they’re ready for diaper changing before taking any action.
“Some may look away or shake their head and so we say, ‘I can see you’re not ready, how about I change Jack and then come back to you?’” she explained.
After the news has spread, plenty of parents slammed the childcare franchise and called their letter “stupid” and “ridiculous.”
“What a joke. The world’s gone mad and to think some mothers/parents will believe this crap,” someone wrote.
“If I had to ask and wait for my toddler son to stop playing. He would have had nappy burn from sitting too long in a dirty nappy. He never stopped playing. This is just stupid,” another one suggested.
The third wrote: “Can I ask my toddler to cook dinner for us. Vacuum the house and do some washing. Then they can put themselves to bed.”
