Parents of a young child are begging the authorities for help after their baby daughter got stranded in Kabul, Afghanistan.
According to the reports, the 7-month-old baby girl’s mother traveled from the UK to Afghanistan back in September last year. She later gave birth in the capital and was joined by her British husband.
Since the woman had lost her British residence permit during her flight to Afghanistan, she requested a single-entry visa that would allow her to return to the UK and apply for the re-issuance of her national ID.
After being granted a single-entry visa with a 30-day expiration date, the woman and her husband flew back to the UK to arrange her documents. However, they were unable to bring their baby daughter with them because her passport still wasn’t ready.
Believing that the 7-month-old will be issued a passport in no time, the parents temporarily left her with her grandparents in Kabul.
Following the complete withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan and the Taliban takeover of Kabul, however, the baby girl has been stranded in Kabul together with her grandparents.
The child’s parents are now begging the authorities to help them bring their daughter to the UK so that the family can be reunited.
As the 7-month-old’s mom explained, she was forced to return to the UK back in May or face losing her visa and the opportunity to bring her daughter to the UK.
“I have been separated from my baby for months I am lost without her by my side and we are losing hope. I beg the government to please help us bring my baby and family back to me,” she said in an interview with BBC.
“Our family helped the UK and the US out when they came to Afghanistan back in 2001 and now it is us who needs help. Our family are targets for the Taliban,” another family member added, hinting that their family could be targeted by the Taliban seeking revenge on their enemies.
“The baby is currently with her mother’s parents in Kabul. They live in a house with about 15 other relatives. Everyone is scared of what the Taliban will do and haven’t set foot out of the house in over two-weeks.”
The family member added: “The baby’s British passport has now finally arrived and we are hoping that will help matters. But the problem remains that the borders in Afghanistan are closed and our family members in Kabul are too frightened to go out at the moment.”
