No child deserves to suffer abuse by their own parents and it is the most horrific thing to go through such a situation.
How could parents be so cruel to their own child? The same case happened with a boy who was killed by his own abusive parents.
According to criminal complaint obtained by BuzzFeed News, Andrew “AJ” Freund was murdered by his parents and buried in a shallow this year.
AJ’s parents, JoAnn Cunningham, 35, and Andrew Freund Sr., 60 killed him by making him stay “in a cold shower for an extended period of time” and “struck” him.
JoAnn and Andrew were arrested by police after they found incriminating information through a forensic analysis of cellphone data.
Crystal Lake Police Chief Jim Black stated, “Information was obtained from forensic analysis of cell phone data. Once presented with the evidence obtained by investigators, both Joann and Andrew Sr. provided information that ultimately led to recovery. ”
Andrew called 911 and informed them they had just returned from a doctor’s appointment and their child is nowhere in sight.
“We canvased the park, the local gas station down here where we sometimes take him to buy treats,” the father said, according to a recording of the 911 call. “I have no idea where he would be… We’ve checked closets, the basement, the garage, everywhere.”
After a long search of weeks, AJ’s body was found wrapped in plastic in a remote area of Woodstock, Illinois, about seven miles from his home in Crystal Lake.
JoAnn who was seven months pregnant faced “charges of murder, aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery, and failure to report a missing child or child death,” reported Buzzfeed News.
Andrew also faced the same charges, in addition to concealing a homicide.
The other members of AJ’s family are mourning the loss of the child.
“The family is grieving this week,” Chicago-based attorney Peter Flowers tells PEOPLE.
A spokesperson of family told PEOPLE, “We, the family that lovingly cared for Andrew (AJ) during the first 18 months of his life and were then allowed to be in his life for another 26 months until the parents abruptly prevented us from having any further contact with him, want everyone to know that AJ was loved by us with all our hearts.”
“While we had him in our lives, he had a happy, fun-loving life,”
“This smart little boy loved having books read to him, doing puzzles, his Thomas the Train, playing with his fire trucks, bulldozers, cement mixer, and Ninja Turtles. He was very curious and always wanted to learn about everything.”
“He was, and will always be, our loving and caring little boy.
“His life shall not be in vain. AJ will always be our little superhero.”
