Parents Launched Crowdfunding Page To Ask People To Do Chores And Cook For Them For Free

A pair of parents-to-be have been ridiculed by social media users after launching a crowdfunding page and asking people to do chores and cook for them for free after their baby was born.

While they were probably expecting a great number of people storming their front door in hopes of working for them for free, the entitled parents were faced with a backlash after angry commenters suggested they were “lazy” and “high-maintenance.”

The reason for such response was not hiding in the fact that the couple was asking for free meals on Meal Train but in their specific demands.

Jim and Alex Burns posted over 30 highly specific recipes for potential donors to choose from and cook for them. One recipe read: “Paleo breakfast egg muffins with thinly sliced cremini mushrooms, pork breakfast sausage and three tablespoons of melted and cooled ghee.”

On top of that, the couple suggested they were looking for someone to check-in on them every day and do whatever they needed on that day. “That might mean a meal or some snack staples, yes, or it may be stopping by and walking the dog or doing some dishes, or simply bringing your smile and some conversation,” Jim wrote.

Speaking of their campaign on Meal Train, the couple wrote:

“As the father-to-be, I’m teetering on a fence of emotions. One of the things I’m most afraid of is not getting a great deal of sleep and as a result not being in the best frame of mind to offer my wife the support she needs to recover from the child-birthing process.

“That’s why I’m putting together this ‘Meal-Train’ or ‘Mental-health check-in train’ or ‘Do you need any help today train.’ A meal would be awesome. If you feel comfortable reaching out before you arrive to see if we might need anything else – that’d be even more awesome.”

Under special instructions, Jim added:

“Meal train is loose. We’re looking for a ‘check-in train’ to have people check-in on us to see if we need or want anything as we acclimate to the new routine.

“Text me on your day and I can let you know what we need. If we could use some food but prefer no distractions, I’ll put a big white cooler in our side yard.”

After the couple’s ‘plea,’ a neighbor of the couple and a Twitter user known as JJFromTheBronx shared the requests of the parents-to-be on social media and people couldn’t resist slamming the couple.

“Amazon Prime and Door Dash/Uber Eats/Grub Hub all exist. I’m all for a meal train but aside from actual allergies from food, you should be grateful for what you get. I also get the Check-Ins but JEEZ they are high maintenance,” one person wrote.

“So basically, he’s not sure he’ll get enough sleep to be able to step up and help his wife with the household duties, and he’s asking the neighborhood to do that s**t FOR him,” another angry commenter said.
