Cruel parents locked their own daughter in a mental hospital after finding out that she got pregnant at a young age.
Philadelphia-based Julie was 19 years old back in 1963 when she started dating a Jewish man named Frank von Zerneck who was four years her senior.
Though her wealthy parents didn’t approve of their relationship, Julie eventually fell pregnant with Frank’s baby.
During a routine ob-gyn check-up, Julie’s doctor discovered that the teenager was pregnant but failed to tell her about her condition.
Instead, the doctor broke the news directly to the girl’s parents.Since the mother and father were against her daughter’s relationship and the idea of having a baby out of wedlock, they decided to keep the information hidden from their daughter.
At the time, abortions in the state were illegal and one needed a good medical reason for termination. Determined to get rid of the unborn child nevertheless, the parents devised a cruel plan which involved making their daughter believe that she was crazy and needed to be admitted to a mental hospital.
To make their false claims even more credible, the parents took the girl to a psychiatrist for a mental check-up before admitting her to a mental facility.
At that time, Julie still didn’t know that she was pregnant, whereas she was forced into believing that she’s suffering from depression and needed professional help.
As months passed, Julie finally discovered the truth only for her parents to urge her to abort her baby. Refusing to terminate her pregnancy, Julie tore up abortion papers, prompting her furious parents to keep her locked in the mental hospital until she gave birth.
Following the childbirth on April 19, 1964, Julie faced even more challenging times as her baby was taken away from her. Though she eventually got out of the mental clinic, Julie couldn’t reconnect with her child because it was already given to another family.
Eventually, the girl moved to New York and became an actress. She also reconnected with Frank and the couple tied the knot in 1965.
Though they never forgot about their baby, it wasn’t until years later that they found out who their little girl was after her adoptive mother had passed away.
Following the loss of her adoptive mother, Kathleen Marie Wiser directed her energy into finding her biological parents and she was eventually reconnected with Frank and Julie.
