Laurence Steinberg, a PhD in psychology provided a couple of guidelines to be followed duly in his famous book ‘The Ten Basic Principles of Parenting’ inferred from his 75 years of knowledge in this field.
He opines that effective parenting means to behave not according to the emotions based on your instincts but also behaving based upon a judicious judgment in connection to your child’s needs and requirements.
He further boasts that hitting your child is not at all a proper way to effective parenting even if your child does a blunder. Instead it’s all about rearranging and rethinking on your priorities.
But that doesn’t mean doing the homework for your child which doesn’t let the teacher know how well is your child learning. It’s about responding judiciously and not randomly as you please.
Steinberg’s book of ten guidelines is not only about parents but everyone dealing with kids from babysitter, teacher, children coach etc.
Just like people are establishing different relationships like marriage, love affairs etc., they should build a healthy relationship with children as well.
