A couple from Sydney were arrested for feeding their kid a vegan diet which caused her to suffer a seizure.
They would have to face five years in jail.
The doctors found the 20-month-old was malnourished, suffered from rickets and had no teeth when the child came into the emergency room for a seizure.
‘Children around the baby girl’s age should weigh around 17 to 30 pounds,’ suggests the Centers for Disease Control.
For legal reasons, the name of the father and mother have not been disclosed.

“This diet resulted in severe deficiencies in nutrients across the board for the infant, including a lack of calcium, phosphate, vitamin B12, vitamin A, iron and zinc,” news.com.au reported. “Her levels of vitamin D — which can cause bone disease if found to be too low were ‘undetectable.’”
The bones are weakened because of calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D deficiencies and led to rickets.
The mother was severely depressed after the child’s birth claims the mother’s attorney. Not only this but attorney also claimed that the woman was in doubt that the girl’s father is cheating on her and questioned her skills as a mother.
On Thursday, a psychologist told the court that there is no evidence of depression in medical records. According to psychologist the mother was actually enjoyed spending time with her child as she was bonded with her well.
An attorney of the girl’s father said that his client couldn’t help the child as he was helpless and the mother ‘dictated’ her care.
Judge Sarah Huggett of Downing Centre Court in Sydney discharged the attorney’s claims, and rebuked the father as he is an ‘educated man’ who “could have picked her up and taken her to a doctor.”
She said the father should have noticed the condition of the baby as the child who was 20 months old couldn’t walk or talk and “wasn’t hitting milestones.”
The child spent a month in the hospital after the seizure and was taken in by a foster caregiver, who told that the girl was not even able to roll over. The baby gained 13 pounds and started crawling and standing after spending six months away from her parents.
