Parents all over Australia have begun writing explanatory notes on their kids’ lunchboxes in order to make the teachers understand why the foods may not be as ‘healthy’ as the schools want them to be.
One woman from Queensland recently shared her note on social media after a teacher commented on her son’s choice of foods and branded the meal ‘unhealthy.’
“The struggle is real,” the mother captioned her post in which she shared a picture of her son’s typical lunch.
On her note to the teachers, she wrote: “My lunchbox may not look healthy but it’s all I will eat. Please be patient as I work through my sensory issues.”
Since her son’s meal was full of snack foods, the mother had to leave a note in order to stop the teachers from forbidding her son to eat his meal.
“As awesome as my child is, he isn’t able to quite articulate exactly why he never has a sandwich or wrap for lunch and prefers to munch on popcorn instead,” she added.
Soon enough, the proud mother’s post went viral with other parents expressing their support.
“Looks healthy babe. I love your note, that’s awesome, I’m going to borrow for my boy for kindy. I adore your advocacy for your child,” one commenter said.
“This is such a great solution! While it’s sad such a message needs to be written it helps teacher awareness. The trend for healthy food monitoring is at its extreme,” another mother said.
The mother’s plea follows a series of public outrages caused by children bringing full lunchboxes back home due to their teachers refusing them or not deeming them healthy enough.
Just recently, another mother spoke out about the issue after her 4-year-old daughter’s teacher prohibited her to eat her healthy meal comprising of vegetables, fruits, cheese, and crackers.
Allegedly, the teacher slammed the meal after spotting a single Hershey’s Kiss. To avoid leaving the girl hungry, the teacher removed the chocolate piece and told her to eat it at home which triggered a raging response from the girl’s mother.
