2-year-old Michael Porter and 1-year-old Josh Porter were pulled unconscious from the bottom of their backyard pool at their home in Morayfield, Queensland.
Paramedics performed CPR as they rushed them to hospital. Unfortunately, the brothers passed away days afterward.
The heartbreaking incident came after parents Carmen and Joe lost their daughter who died at only 16 weeks old. The couple announced the death of their sons in a statement.
“It is with great sadness that we advise that our boys are no longer with us.
“Our family is incredibly grateful for the support and care provided by staff of the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
“We ask the media to please respect our family’s privacy at this sad time. We will not be providing any further comment.”
Neighbor Garry Bryan said the ‘beautiful little boys’ were ‘full of energy.’ He also told The Courier-Mail that Michael ‘was always out wanting to help dad mow the lawn.’
Heartbroken friends had also set up a GoFund me page for the brothers which had raised $10,000 for their care.
“Carmen and Jo are beautiful parents and need all of our love and support at this horrible time. Michael and Josh are in all of our thoughts and prayers,” it read.
Michael, the eldest, passed away three days after the accident. Family friend Sharon Landman shared on Facebook: “Little Michael has lost his battle, while Josh continues to fight.
“Our hearts and prayers are with you in this terribly sad time. Don’t lose faith!! Family and friends, please keep praying for Josh.”
But Josh also died afterward.
Carmen and Joe were members of the South African community in Queensland. Members of the group offered support and prayed for the devastated family.
Our hearts go out to this family at this very difficult time.
