Einstein is an African grey parrot who goes by the monicker The Talking Texan Parrot. He’s both silly and smart but he’s also quite popular with a thorough social media presence on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. He also has a website called einsteinparrot.com. It’s a portal not only for all things about Einstein but also aims to educate viewers about how to properly care for parrots.
As for Einstein himself, his mission statement says it all: “To entertain and bring joy, to foster the human-parrot bond, and to convey that parrots are deserving of immeasurable amounts of patience, nurturing, and companionship.”
The adorable bird does that with his vast repertoire of skills which is not limited to imitating words but also holding conversations, dancing, and various funny antics.
African grey parrots are known for their uncanny skill at mimicking sounds and Einstein is no different.
In this video, he shows just how talented he is by even imitating the sound of running water! The video starts with Einstein on his perch as he’s asking for water. And then incredibly enough, he actually makes the sound of running water! He then asks, “Want this one?” and then extends his claw as if offering a drink before holding it to his beak in imitation of drinking it. He then tries to evoke some envy by proclaiming, “It’s good,” followed by a clicking sound before adding, “drink of water.”
He tops off the performance by imitating the gulping sound that his owners make when they drink water.
Parrots such as Einstein can reach up to 50 or 60 years old. Larger parrots such as Macaws can even go up to 100 years old. Of course, such a long life is predicated upon a lot of care, nutrition, time, and patience.
Before you go out and buy a parrot, understand that they are attention seekers and need toys and activities to keep them entertained. Making sure that they have proper habitation also requires a big investment such as a large cage as well as plenty of perches where they can spend their time on when out of the cage. There is a saying that goes, “Having a parrot is much like raising a 2 or 3-year-old child for the rest of your life!”
But if you put in the proper effort and investment, these magnificent and beautiful birds will make sure you will have moments of laughter to last you a lifetime.
